Tokyo Mew Mew

Mew Ichigo

supplies

• ​ sewing machine
• cotton ( as fabric for your costume)
•  cloves best bought at a carnival store
•  light weight clay
•  headgear ( to attach the ears to)
• fake fur
• lots of thread
• red boots or red socks and heels in the same color
•  pasterns of a strapless top and a pleated skirt
•  an aluminum bar of + / - 1 meter and a diameter of 4 mm
• big red ribbon
•  red ribbon for the edge of the clothing
•  elastic band
•  old sheath or teddy bear stuffing
•  cardboard ( for cat ears pastern)
•  very big bell

 

How to make it  

actually I had it very difficult with this costume because it was my first costume and I had no experience with a sewing machine.

​Tail

so for the tail you take the fake fur and make 2 ribbons of +/- 1,10 meters and you sew it together then you turn it inside out and put that aside.

Take the old sheaths and rip them by hand in ribbons or use the teddy bear stuffing if you bought that.

Take the fake fur tube and put the aluminum bar in it before you fill it with the old fabric ribbons or stuffing .

than make balls of the fabric ribbons en stuff the tail till it's nice and firm but let +/- 10 cm fabric free so you can sew it shut and attach it to you skirt later .

The only thing you have to do now is fold it into an S shape.

Than take the big red ribbon and make a bow around the end of the tail en sew it on together with the bell.

skirt

Take a normal pleated skirt pattern and make it as it is expland in the papers you get with your patterns.

When you have your skirt, cut open the inlay of your skirt and move the elastic band trough it than pull everything to fit perfectly around your thigh so that if you walk it does not slip of you legs .

Top

Take a normal strapless top pattern an make it as it is expland in the papers you get with your pasterns.(ya I now it's the same as before)

When the bustier is finish't you take the red ribbon en sow it around the top of your strapless top.

The triangles at the bottom of your top you can make after you made you top or you can adjust your top when you draw your pattern if you have experience with making clothes.

Ears

Take the cardboard and make 2 catearshaped drawings .

Then cut out the shapes and lay them aside .

Take the fake fur and cut out the same shape.

 Do the same with a piece of left over pink fabric.

Sew the fabrics together and turn it inside out put the cardboard ear shapes in it to hold the shape of your ears .

Then sew the bottom shut take the headpiece  and sew it on .

that's it .

Boots

If you have boots you don't need this part.

If you don't than you can make boot covers or you can buy red knee socks or white knee socks and color them with red fabric dye .

The only thing you need than is red heels or red ballerina flats and your good to go.

necklace

Just take a big piece of lightweight clay and mold it in a oval shape than make a hole whit a toothpick in the center of top area of your oval than let it air dry .

When it's dry just paint it yellow and paint the Tokyo mew mew logo on it in pink .

Cut 2 strips of pink fabric and sew them together then turn them inside out take the red ribbon and sew it on both sides of you fabric ribbon.
